The Sidewalk CafeThis cafe is the place to be seen in movies and commercials.
For the past quarter of a century, this cafe provides a great view for street performers, the ocean and potentially intriguing people walking by. Enjoy the homemade soups and sauces while soaking in the beautiful music, atmosphere and scenery.
Whether you come for breakfast on the beach, lunch in the sun, or dinner at sunset, you are sure to enjoy at The Sidewalk Cafe. Look for the red and white awning near the center of the Venice Boardwalk!
HistoryThe public and the stars immediately fell in love with the newest addition. Charlie Chaplin reportedly clowned around in Kinney's car races and Mary Pickard supposedly rowed in her own gondola.
The Sidewalk Cafe is one of the last buildings remaining of the Venice buildings. The Harrah family (of Nevada fame) purchased the building and made it into a bingo parlor. This establishment was expanded with underground tunnels to accommodate bootleggers when alcohol was banned during prohibition.
In the 1950's and 1960's, artists made this building their studio. After that phase, the house was empty until 1976. Walter (Skip) and Penny Dixon purchased the building for a bookstore. In an unoccupied part of the building, the owners built a small takeout place. As the popularity grew, Bob and Skip re-opened the patio restaurant.
Ruth's Chris Steak HouseThis upscale establishment offers the quality, but not the stuffy attitude. The sizzle is not just in the steak, but also in attitude and personality originating from New Orleans. If steak isn't your thing, dabble in their fresh seafood or vegetarian menu items. Hop in a car rental LAX to visit the Beverly Hills location at 224 South Beverly Drive.
