History

In 1997, the team started off with a disappointing loss to the New York Liberty team in the WNBA's inaugural game. During that game, Spark's player Penny Toler made history by scoring the league's 1st two points! The following years, the Sparks played well but got defeated in the playoffs. Finally in 2001, Michael Cooper (former LA Lakers player) coached the Sparks to their 1st championship. The year of 2002 was a great year where the Sparks went to the WNBA finals and became back to back champions! Lisa Leslie also became the 1st woman to dunk in the league! In 2004, Michael Cooper left to seek a coaching job in the NBA but it was also the Spark's best regular season yet although they lost in the 1st round of playoff to Sacramento Monarchs!

She guided the Sparks to their constructive champions in 2001 and 2002. Penny Toler is not only the 1st player to score a basket in WNBA history, but she was also the 1st free thrower! She is currently the general manager of the Sparks! Other notable players include Latasha Byears, Allison Feaster, Nikki Teasley and Jennifer Gillom.

Directions

The Los Angeles Sparks play at the Staples Centre on 1111 S. Figueroa St. in downtown Los Angeles! Take the 105 E to the 110 W. Then exit at Adams Blvd. and turn left. Continue down Adams Blvd and turn right on Figueroa St. Continue on Figueroa Street to 11th Street and turn left where you will see the Staples Centre.
